Socialism Makes You a Block Head.
Augustine wrote a great theological work called the city of God where he contrasts how to build a society and economy that mirrors God's blueprint of the New Jerusalem. He also warned of a horrible counterfit blueprint called Babylon. While God's city is built on individuality, unity among diversity, and putting God first to serve others. Babylon is very different. Babylon is a city designed to consolidate power for those who are in control to "make a name for themselves."
If you study Babylon, you'll find some very clear warnings for today. Rather than celebrating the individualism that can be found in seeing each member of the society as "living stones" (1 Peter), Babylon is built out of bricks: Interchangable, identical, pushed-into-a-mold bricks. The difference between a society that celebrates your God given unique individual stone like creation is fundamentally different from a society that tries to turn everyone into a block-head brick to help build "their" great society. The bricks must be "thouroughly burned" reminding us that individualism is burned away in a society of conformity.
These two cities have been in battle since the beginning. One city will focus on liberty, prosperity, and generosity of the individual that promotes God and his Shalom to the society. The other is a clever counterfit that offers to take your liberty to grant you some dictator's view of "equality." Socialism is Babylon. It turns you into a block for the wall and a cog in the machine. You are important in serving the greater good.
How does God deal with Babylon? In Revelation 17, the whole system comes crashing down as God's great city replaces it. The Great City of God, the New Jerusalem descends from Heaven and a new society on earth with real people in real bodies live in a perfected literal physical city on the new restored earth forever. The AntiChrist's (A Socialist dictator) consolidation of power and economic system of central planning and distribution comes crashing down in less than an hour. All those merchants and stockholders who tried to get rich on her back are wailing in this final chapter of the Bible. Why? Babylon promises prosperity for all, but grants it to the elite few. Babylon promises a soceity of liberty while offering it only to the ruling class. Babylon promises generosity to all while only doling out crums to the lesser important ones. Babylon, like all socialistic systems, is a downward spiral into misery.
God's city is far different. It is a city filled with diversity with unity. You can hear different tribes, nations, nationalities, cultures, and skin pigments. God is the master painter who paints with individual beautiful colors. He is the master mason who weaves together individual living stones into a beautiful field stone wall. God is the Mason and the Mortar which allows the stones he made to come together in harmony. The Prophet Isaiah tells us that his society results in such incredible growing and expanding prosperity for all, that individuals can't give away their money fast enough to others. Everyone is provided for. Everyone is taken care of . When Liberty is Combined with Individual Prosperity, the Generosity of the New Jerusalem is a shining Beacon of god's care, compassion, and generous spirit.
Until Jesus returns ,we won't see that city in it's full light. Until then we must work toward seeing His Kingdom Come and his Will Be Done on Earth as it is in Heaven. We must resist the counterfit kingdom of Babylon that promises so much, and takes so much more. we must build our lives on the city of God rather than the city of man. We must see the slithering snake of socialism for what it is: The Great babylon.
Genesis 11:3 They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”
Rev 17. : 5 And on her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.2 And he cried mightilya]'>[a] with a loud voice, saying, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen...For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the abundance of her luxury.”4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. 5 For her sins have reachedb]'>[b] to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.
